The Atlanta Vision Research Community (AVRC) is composed of a dynamic group of vision researchers focused on AI and computational neuroscience, higher order visual processing, engineering, molecular biology and genetics, ocular physiology, neural circuits, visual environment, and treatment strategies to treat ocular disease.

provides support and scientific expertise for individual, collaborative, and pilot research in the areas of Structural Biology and Imaging, Functional Genomics and Proteomics, and Bioinformatics and Biostatistics, as they relate to basic and translational eye research. 

AVRC enhances the capabilities of NEI-funded investigators and the institutions for conducting vision research by: 

1. Providing research services and resources to improve quality and productivity of NEI-supported R-series research projects; 

2. Fostering vision research and collaboration among vision researchers in the Atlanta metro area; 

3. Providing core support for pilot collaborations for new vision research grant proposals; 

4. Facilitating the vision research of new faculty; 

5. Aiding recruitment of new vision research faculty with high quality cores; 

6. Encouraging non-vision scientists to study vision by offering Core support. 

CANVAS P30 Core Laboratories 

The core laboratories enhance collaboration, support pilot projects leading to new R01 proposals, and complement the annual support for research by Emory Eye Center, the Emory School of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology and other departments within Emory University, the Atlanta VA Medical Center, Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia State University, and Morehouse School of Medicine.
